Books versus Kindle

I have been a home PC user since the mid-1980s, but there is no way I am going to surrender the last and most important part of my traditional media - books - to yet another electronic device. Where I can afford it, and when the book is important to me, I have even gone back to buying well-bound hardback copies instead of paperbacks.

Information technology is so easy and so seductive, but I aim over the last few years of my life progressively to reduce my dependence on it. I have just had a week without a mobile phone, thanks to a problem with a newly-delivered one, and I can honestly say that the quality of my life has been better.

This afternoon I saw a couple walking out together. He held her arm, while she chatted to a friend on her mobile phone. Says it all, really.
